software and games for your mobile phone

SmartEndKey

As microsoft is not able to get SmartEndKey published, we decided to give you SmartEndKey for FREE here on this blog.

SmartEndKey is an all-in-one solution that gives quick access to important settings and all running tasks.

You can quickly turn WiFi, Bluetooth, Radio on or off. Also soft reset, shutdown or lock shortcuts are available.

Featuring a Windows 7 like task bar that allows you to pin tasks, SmartEndKey becomes also a perfect task manager. On the HD2, you can assign the tool to a hardware button for really fast access.

Features:

  • Shortcuts to dis/enable WiFi, Bluetooth and the radio
  • Shortcuts to reboot, shutdown and lock
  • Windows 7 like task bar
  • Designed for the HTC HD2
  • Customizable

Sounds nice! Where can I get it?

Here After you downloaded the cab-file, copy it to your phone and browse to it using the FileExplorer. Tap on SmartEndKeySetup.CAB to install it. You’ll find a shortcut in the start menu.

FAQs

  • What is meant by Windows 7 like task bar.

On the bottom of SmartEndKey you’ll find all tasks. You can pin and sort them like you can in Windows 7. To do this, swipe vertically (this means to flick your finger) over a task. In the appearing context menu, click on”Rank as first entry” to reorder it or click on “Pin” to pin it. If you have pinned a task, it will appear half-transparent if the app is not started. You can now click on it to start the app.

  • Oops, I have hidden a shortcut but I need it now.

Click on the last item in the shortcut list (on the top). In the appearing context menu, click on shortcuts. In this menu, you can edit the visibility from each shortcut by clicking on it.

  • What does “Fast startup (experimental)” mean?

If Fast startup is checked, SmartEndKey stays in memory. Thus, the app loads much faster but it needs more memory. If you experience any issues, try to turn “Fast startup (experimental)” off.

  • How can I get back the default shortcut app – the one that is started when I hold down the right hardware button for 3 sec?

Start SmartEndKey. Tap on the Settings shortcut and uncheck “Integrate”. If you have uninstalled SmartEndKey, open the File Explorer and browse to the SmartEndKey program folder (either “\Program Files\SmartEndKey” or “\Storage Card\Program Files\SmartEndKey”). Rename “EndKeyBackup.exe” to “EndKey.exe”. Copy the renamed file into your windows directory (“\Windows\”); overwrite the existing file.

  • I still have another problem or question? What should I do?

    • Hi Dave

Does “It doesn’t install” mean that the setup fails? If so, try to download the setup again, it’s very likely that the cab file is not complete (due to any download errors). After the download has finished, make sure that it has the correct size of 488 KB.

If you need any further help, please feel free to contact us again.

Dear Marko, I am sorry, but after many repeated downloads the size is always 79 kb. If you give me an e-mail address I can attach a screendump showing the file size as well as the error message on the screen; although this is of no importance, as obviously I am trying to run a faulty CAB file…

        Best regards,

        Dave

    Dear Marko,

I continued experimeting with the download, and after many tries I managed to get the correct CAB file from the Mirror Site. Installation is OK now, and I am experimenting with the application.

It is not very clear how the prgramme shortcut icons will appear on the bottom toolbar. Are they there automatically when one opens a new programme, or it has to be imported somehow?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    • Hi Dave

Nice to hear that you’re now able to run SmartEndKey.

The bottom toolbar (task bar) is automatically updated with all running tasks each time you open SmartEndKey.

But If you want a sticky program (like you can pin a program on the Windows 7 task bar), swype your finger vertically over the program icon and a context menu will appear. Choose “pin” to have the program always in the taskbar. If it’s not running when you open SmartEndKey the icon will appear half-transperent and SmartEndKey will start it for you if you tap on it.

Note that you also can choose “Rank as first entry” in the context menue. This will cause the icon to show up as the first one in the taskbar.

PS: Try also to swype over a shortcut item in the top toolbar.

  4. Dear customers

In the last time, we received a lot of mails with questions or errors regarding the SmartPhone-Platform. This platform is also Windows-Mobile powered but it’s not Windows Mobile Professional. WM 6.5 Pro (PocketPCSSDK platform) features another set of APIs than the Standard- (Smartphone-platform) or PocketPC- (PocketPC-platform) Version.

Our software is always for WM 6.5 Professional and Standard/PocketPC are not officially supported. Notice that our software may run on them, but be aware that the software is not designed for those platfroms and expect some issues.

    Thanks for your understanding

    • ahmed

also i deleted the folder in the program files .. how can i make my power button work again

      18.02.2012 at 20:02

      • Hi ahmed

Unfortunately, it’s not that easy if you’ve deleted the program folder. You can either reinstall SmartEndKey and continue using it or perform a hard reset.

However, there’s also another option (tough we cannot officially recommend it): You can look for a friend with an HD2 and copy EndKey.exe from his phone or you can search the web for it (here is the result of my search for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654461).

BUT BE AWARE, always perform a virus check and please note that we, ICE Software Studios, are not responsible for external content and thus, cannot give you any guarantees of any form!

This will hopefully solve your issue but please feel free to contact us again
